In 2023 India will hold elections in 9 states across North-East, Central, West and South India. Election results from these states may predict people’s choice for upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. States which are up for election are Tripura, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, Rajasthan and Telangana. It is likely predicted that these assembly elections will set trends and roadmap of upcoming Lok Sabha elections of 2024.
As of May 2023 Elections has been conducted in 3 North Eastern States of Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland.
Elections were held in Tripura on 16 February 2023. Counting of votes and results were declared on 2 March 2023.
Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), led by Manik Saha won 32 out of 60 seats whereas there ally party Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) won only 1 seat.
Newly formed Tipra Motha Party (TMP), led by Kirit Pradyot Manikya Deb Barma Bahadur won 13 seats and became largest opposition party.
Communist Party of India (Marxist) CPI(M) stood 3rd by winning 11 seats.
Indian National Congress (INC) joined Communists parties alliance called Secular Democratic Forces (SDF) and won 3 seats.
BJP formed government in Tripura for the second time since 2018.
Elections were held in Meghalaya on 27 February 2023. Counting of votes and results were declared on 2 March 2023.
